Here’s a little secret that I’m going to share with you… Last night while I was writing my daily email, I pretty much hit the wall of mental exhaustion. I’m not exaggerating, I got to the end of the email down the bottom where I give you the link to join the Casual Marketer Monthly Newsletter if you’re interested and I was mentally having to will myself to write the URL and create the link.
Coping With Instant Success
For most of us normal humans, success in business is a slow process. It’s a culmination of small wins that compound over time fused with lessons learned from setbacks and failures all mixed up with huge helping of perseverance and inner strength.
Getting Hung Up About A Decision
Every day during the regular course of our lives we make hundreds of decisions. I was thinking about this other day when someone I had been talking to that morning was all twisted in knots over what I honestly thought was a pretty minor decision so I said to him that just treat it like any other decision and move on.
Separating Sales From Delivery
About a year ago I started a new job. It was a completely different role than most of what I’d done in my career – I’d switched from the customer side to being on the vendor side. I had run a software-as-a-service business and an IT managed services company a few years back but as Managing Director, your interactions with customers is fairly limited – there are people who deal with that and you are really just meeting customers to build deeper relationships.
Branching Out And Trying New Things
When I was young I really disliked mushrooms for some reason. My parents would have to make me special meals if they were having mushrooms because I really couldn’t stomach them – I would literally gag when they entered my mouth. Oddly enough, my son has EXACTLY the same reaction to mushrooms.
Automating In Some Leverage
Most of the posts that I write for you are pretty high level. I tend to focus on bigger mindset issues and pointing out situations that you should be aware of and can maybe use to your advantage. These blog posts are meant to be more strategic than anything else.
Going To The Well Once Too Often
Large parts of my youth were spent hanging out at the playground of my primary school during the summers playing what we used to call “wall ball”. It was kind of this modified version of baseball that we played a lot of in the area where I grew up – literally everyone played, even the kids who weren’t very athletic.
Depending On Technology Too Much
Today I was standing at a cafe waiting for my coffee to be made and was eavesdropping on the people next to me. This guy was talking to this young lady about catching up with her on the weekend and she seemed really keen. He then said to her, “What’s your number and I’ll text you so you have my number.” The young girl looked quizzically at him and said, “I can’t remember my number. What’s yours?” He laughed and said he couldn’t remember his so they agreed to become friends on Facebook.
Obliterating The Free Line
This afternoon I got a lengthy email from someone who felt that they needed to save me from myself. Apparently, I am very guilty of “moving the free line” and giving too much away in these posts. I was told without question that I needed to charge for this information otherwise people won’t buy the milk if they get the cow for free.
Misaligned Expectations
Ok, let me start by saying this blog post isn’t about race or politics, although it will venture into those territories a bit. You’ve been warned.
