Answering Some Questions About Casual Marketer

One of the things I’ve always meant to do was to use one of my daily posts to answer some questions that I get on a semi-regular basis.  I probably get a couple of responses every day from people to these posts.  Some people just tell me what they think, others tell me how something I said resonated with them and I get asked some questions, so I figured why not take the time to answer a few of the most asked questions publicly.

Listen Up Y’all It’s A Sabotage

True story, I can’t look at, read, hear or even think of the word “sabotage” without immediately starting to sing the Beastie Boys hit, “Sabotage” in my own mind.  It’s a reflex response to the song.

Should I Do A Podcast?

Today’s post is going to serve a couple of different purposes: primarily, I’m going to talk about where I think podcasting is today as a medium; and secondly, I’ll be discussing some of my own thoughts and plans about where I might take the idea.

Just Offer A Better Service

I’ve been coming to Brisbane for work once a week now for about eight weeks I guess and for the last seven of those, I’ve stayed at this really nice new hotel called the Capri By Fraser in the middle of the city.  The hotel has a very cool vibe and because it is relatively new with a great fit out, it’s very modern and comfortable for a business traveller.

Taking On A Challenge

One of the attributes that I have as a person is that I tend not to need external factors to motivate me to do something.  I’m good at deciding to do something and then just getting on with it.  I’m stubborn and determined enough to take on a goal and see it through to the end.

Running In Quicksand

Growing up in Canada in the 1970’s and 1980’s we had access to literally dozens of channels on cable TV.  As a result, I got to see more than my fair share of American sitcoms and re-runs of some of the old classics.  To this day I can still sit down, turn on an episode of the Flintstones, tell you the plot and for the most part recite every single line of the show.

It’s All About Control

One of the things I’m a very strong proponent of is placing as much of your best content primarily on your own website that you control.  I think Facebook is awesome, YouTube is great, Medium can be interesting and if you want to Snap, Tweet or Insta that’s totally up to you, but your best stuff, that should be on your own site with everything point back to that!

How Competitive Are You?

Let me put it right out there for you, I’m a fairly competitive person.  When faced with an opportunity or a challenge, I can become quite quickly wrapped up in the heat of the moment and start pushing pretty hard to get a result.  If I think there’s an achievable target with a high enough reward, there’s something about my personality that just kicks into gear and I start hustling to make it happen.

Getting Your Mental Game Right

One thing that I’ve always been pretty fortunate with is that I seem to have a pretty good mindset naturally to take on new business ideas and turn them into something.  I don’t get disappointed easily, I handle setbacks well and I don’t get too high when I have some success.  I’m generally a pretty cool customer.

The Tools Do Not Make The Man

Allow me to start with an apology.  The subject line of this email uses an old phrase that is gender specific.  I tried to make it non-gender specific and say something like, “The tools do not make the person” or whatever, but it just didn’t sound right.  In the end, it was easier to just use the phrase everyone was used to and move forward.
