The Calm After The Storm

Recently I was working on a new offer for clients – during the initial stages of thinking and planning, I was fueled by excitement for the idea and possibilities.  Then when I was actually pulling the offer together I was motivated to get it completed.

Neither of those activities was particularly difficult mentally or emotionally to get through.

Then when everything was done and I was getting ready to pull the trigger on the offer, the nerves kicked in.

“Will anyone buy this?”

“Can I actually deliver what I’m promising?”

“What will people think of this?”

In that moment just before when you are preparing to take a big step or making a significant life decision is when most of us get really nervous.  That’s when the self-doubt and insecurities kick in and your lizard brain starts telling you to step back, don’t take a risk, play it safe.

For me, those are always the most difficult moments.  I can honestly say that over the years I’ve created numerous products and services that never get past that point.

I know for a fact that many of you struggle with this.  You spend months, even years planning and working on something, but never really commit to turning it loose.  I know people who have spent years working on their “online business” but for one reason or another, they can’t ever finish.

What I’m saying today is that it’s alright and most of us struggle with this.  For some of us, we’re concerned about quality and reputation.  We want to spend that little bit of extra time and apply just a little more polish before giving people the chance to buy or sign up.

We hold ourselves back.

This isn’t a message about it being “ok to fail” or any tripe like that.  I’ll leave that to your favourite Hopium Dealer to give you your feel-good fix if that’s what you need.  I’m not here to try and promise your butterflies and rainbows when you get past the point of no return.

I’m here to tell you that on the other side of that simple decision will be an incredible, almost surreal peace.  You’ll push the button to send that offer or flick the switch to make your website live and something will change inside you.

For a time, a serenity will wash over you.  The concerns, anxieties and worries will simply go away and there will be an amazing euphoria.  It’s a dopamine hit for sure, but it’s the best kind – it’s the chemical reward from your brain for taking positive action.

For some of us, that high will last a day or maybe even a few days.  For others, it might only be a fleeting moment.  No matter what you will have it.

And I’m not going to say there will be harmony in the world and that your life will be stupidly better, but what I will say is that in that one moment, for however long it lasts, you will feel something amazing.  I’ve described it as euphoric, others define it as a calmness washing over them.  Either way, the nerves and mild panic leading up to that decision to proceed will go away and you’ll be left feeling better.

So the next time you’re sitting there in a flap about whether or not to move forward, rest assured that making your decision and going with it will bring you some inner peace.
